Preview 6.1 - Use after Chapter 8 test if you want

6.1 - Exponential Growth and Decay

  • The lesson is split into two parts because the file is really big and would not upload.
  • There is an infinite cloner (Mark's head) on the "Create a table" page, and a link to an E-coli (Biller Bacteria) video clip
  • The infinite cloner will allow you to make a bunch of mini-marks...to show how quickly bacteria grows
  • There are a lot of slides, and you need to go through them pretty quickly.

6.2 - Exponential Functions

6.1-6.2 Review and Clicker

I changed the mini-test questions for a review. Same questions, different numbers.

6.1-6.2 Mini-Test or Quiz

6.3 - Logarithmic Functions

Notes from last year:
  • In order to conceptually understand logs, kids must discover that logarithms and exponents are inverses and that a log is actually an exponent itself. Let me know if you need me to clarify.
  • This is a huge topic for both Pre-Calculus and Calculus. To do it justice, I think that it needs to be more than one period. The lesson above is really big. I plan on getting through as much as possible on Monday, and then finishing on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday's lesson will be to finish this one (6.3) and to have the kids do a discovery worksheet that brings up the properties of logs. If you finish the worksheet on Tuesday early, you can begin lesson 6.4 which gives a lot of practice around the properties.
  • Wednesday will be 6.4.
  • I have not made a clicker test yet, because I am not sure that there will be time. Please let me know if you want me to make one.
  • In this lesson, many of the solutions and hints are behind boxes that FADE...just click the box and it will reveal the answer. Some answers are not included.

6.1-6.3 Mini-Test

I took the 6.1-6.2 mini-test from above and added concepts from 6.3. It is also clickerable.

6.4 - Properties of Logarithmic Functions

available Clicker "quiz" for 6.1- 6.4

(No questions, just answers. It goes with page 78-79 in Assessment Resource book. Will need to change #12. SB:)

6.5 - Applications of Common Logarithms

6.3-6.5 Review and Mini-Test

Stations Answer Key (I changed the pH problem slightly because we had that exact problem just recently. ~Jones)

6.6 - The Natural Base, e

6.7 - Solving Equations and Modeling (FYI - did not get to this one on our work-load relief day)

Review and Mini-Test

I made the centers and other stuff into a chapter 6 test
